The History of East Grinstead by Wallace Henry Hills published by Farncombe & Co. Ltd in 1906
- First brigade formed in 1863. Long before this the town had possessed two primitive fire engines
- premises now used ([1906?] by Central Meat Co were specially built as a fire station, and finally the engine found a habitation at the present building adjoining Mr Heasman's corn stores.
